"Walking down Main Street on a summer morning, Miss Starngeworth had to stop every minute or so to say good morning to someone or to ask after someone's health. When she came into the grocery, half a dozen people turned away from the shelves and the counters to wave at her to call out good morning."
This small paragraph shows some of the character traits that Ms. Strangeworth has. It seems like she is a really nice and caring women. Normally someone wouldn't feel the need to say good morning to someone, or even asking about their health. Ms. Strangeworth also seems very beloved as well, as it says in the paragraph, "half a dozen people turned away from the shelves and the counters to wave at her or call our good morning." This shows that everyone loves and likes her. One thing thats very interesting is that, the title of the story is called The Possibility of Evil, so was all these nice and lovely traits just a fake?
This part shows what other people saw of Miss Strangeworth. Although she pretends to be nice to everyone, she secretly kept note of everyone and their secrets. This quote contrasts largely to her actual personality. I think she used her "nice" appearance and popularity to hide the fact that she is the evil lady who writes mean letters to everyone.
