The Possibility of Evil.

Miss Strangeworth was a Strangeworth of Pleasant Street. Her hand did not shake as she opened the envelop and unfolded the sheet of green paper inside. She began to cry silently for the wickedness of the world when she read the words : LOOK OUT AT WHAT USED TO BE YOUR ROSES.

  2. Inference/Prediction: I predict Mrs. Strangeworth's action will spread through town like wildfire. She will eventually become the most detested person of town and die lonely while still standing adamant to her beliefs.
Foreshadow: There were many elements in the story that foreshadowed the relevance of Mrs. Strangeworth being the vicious rumor spreader. This quotation was interesting because it confirmed reader's conclusions but with a slight twist the writer played on Mrs. Strangeworth's roses. This quotation is NOT a foreshadowing element, but the final product of previous foreshadowing elements.
Connection: I personally don't like to spread rumors of others, especially unconfirmed ones. I did once hear on the news of a girl who told many vicious gossips in vain attempt to peruse popularity. A group of people later cornered her before school and gave her a good beating. It did not work well for her.

  4. Inference: I infer that afterwards, people around town would lose all the respect that they had for her before. Now, she would be regarded as self centered. In the grocery store, Mr. Lewis would not say good morning cheerfully to her anymore, customers there would not even bother to turn their heads to acknowledge her presence.
