Doing Nothing is Something quote

"Downtime is where we become ourselves, looking into the middle distance, kicking at the curb, lying on the grass or sitting on the stoop and staring at the tedious blue of the summer sky."

  1. In this quote, the author tries to tell us that we only truly become our real selves, only when we are given a time off to ourselves; to do what we feel like doing.

  2. I feel that in this quote, the author is trying to persuade to us that we truly only become ourselves whenever we stop for any amount of time, seconds or years, and just think about where we are, what we are doing, and what we hope for the future. The author (I think) is trying to get us to try to relax more in an effort to find our real, unshielded personalities, and eventually realize who our inner selves are, and to come to peace with what we truly are.
